Mind of a Scientist is an opportunity for high school students--and science lovers of all ages--to experience a day in the life of a scientist.
Each week, we will venture out to meet scientists and engineers presenting live from their labs or the field. These science & engineering professionals will share the adventures they experience in their various professions and answer student questions. Together with professional scientists & engineers, there are breakout groups where we will solve real-life problems--for extra credit, your own satisfaction..... or bragging rights! Each week we host a fun and interesting webinar-style Zoom presentation, which will later be uploaded here each Wednesday (one week after the actual zoom presentation takes place).
Our primary goals: To inspire and spread the love & curiosity of science among west county teens. To help students learn about various scientific disciplines with lessons, fun & interesting interactive experiments & activities, and hands-on/project-based educational experiences. We will also be highlighting 'a day in the life' of a local science professional--offering insight into career opportunities.
To offer opportunities for teens to connect and engage with the world of science--so that they may see how it is interwoven within the fabric of our everyday experiences. Igniting the interest and imaginations of high school students. Benefits range from students learning one (or hopefully more!) new concept to a student who is motivated to dedicate their life to working in a science-based career or supporting causes with a scientific foundation.

In 1916, through a Carnegie Grant, Sebastopol's Public Library was built, providing access to a modern library building dedicated for all to acquire the knowledge for improving themselves. As Sebastopol grew, the Carnegie building proved inadequate for library functions, and, after the 1969 earthquake, it was deemed too expensive to save. In 1974, a new library building was built on the site. The land where the current library stands has always been used for civic and educational purposes. Starting in 2011, the Library went through a major remodel, improving the shelving systems, adding more computers for public use, and incorporating the library concept of single-point-of-public-service, among other improvements.
